Artists’ Books Research Residency 2012: Charlotte Cheetham
In September 2012 the library initiated a month-long research residency program dedicated to exploration within the library’s unique Artists’ Books collection.
In collaboration with Fillip, we were very fortunate to invite French curator, Charlotte Cheetham, to Vancouver to participate in our inaugural residency. Charlotte’s publications & exhibition projects explore the intersections between art and graphic design issues as they reveal themselves through print media and contemporary publishing practices. Her research projects are approached as spaces for experimental proposals.
Manystuff.org, the blog she runs since 2006, proposes one possible reflection of a landscape and promotes an adventurous practice of graphic design that intersects closely with art, curatorial practices, and contemporary publishing.
Charlotte’s practice is based on an experimental approach embodied in publishing experiences, in exhibition moments, and in a flow of information over the Internet. Working on interpretation, on reinterpretation, she is interested in the thinking process – multidisciplinary, poetic, experimental and surprising – that leads to the final “form”.
