I want to acknowledge all the individuals that consistently make change with their art, writing, and by simply taking up space as a Black, Indigenous, or people of colour within ECU. This work doesn’t go unnoticed and is part of a greater collective activism movement.
I see hope in the new generation of students that will carry and expand the activism at the institution in coming together as Black, Indigenous, and people of colour of ECU.
Thank you to the Student Union who has helped and supported the groups of activists through their time, energy, and resources.
Thank you to those who took the time to read this research project and I hope it brought community to those who needed it and hope to those future generations of students. It is important we acknowledge this history of the institution and the work that has been already done in order to move forward into change.

I would like to acknowledge that this project has been deeply informed by my own lived experience, the lived experience of my family and ancestors, and the lived experience of those around me. The writings of Bell Hooks, Gloria Anzaldúa and Audre Lorde have also deeply impacted my life, writing, and work. I also wanted to recognize Sue Shon's Critical Race Theory class which allowed me to expand my writing on these topics and provided me with the confidence to navigate these difficult conversations. This work's ways of storytelling have been rooted in the word-of-mouth knowledge that is prevalent in my cultural upbringing and informed by Cissie Fu's Stortytelling as Transformative Justice Class.
