A guide to resources on sustainability

Climate Change + Emergency Preparedness Resources

Many of the resources on this page are from Leslie Urquhart's Personal and Household Emergency Preparedness Workshop presented in the ECU Library on February 1st, 2024.

We have also included selections from the City of Vancouver's Climate Change Adaptation Strategy, which includes a number of strategies to mitigate the worst impacts of climate change in our area. According to that document, by 2050 Vancouver will face hotter, drier summers, warmer, wetter winters, and rising sea levels.

Meanwhile, British Columbia's Preliminary Strategic Risk Assessment related to climate change, found that '[t]he greatest risks to B.C. are severe wildfire season, seasonal water shortage, heat wave, ocean acidification, glacier loss, and long-term water shortage. Other risks that have the potential to result in significant consequences include severe river flooding and severe coastal storm surge. Nearly every risk event scenarios would have major province-wide consequences in at least one category.'

Take a look at the resources below to learn more about these predictions and how we can prepare.
