The ECU Library + Archives Commitment and Progress guide is a living document where we outline the actions we are taking as a library to fulfill our strategic goals. These goals include decolonization and indigenization, accessibility, and sustainability.
The first section gives an overview of the projects undertaken by our Decolonization and Indigenization committee. It provides a description of our catalogue decolonization project and an overview of completed projects year-to-year. The Anti-Oppressive Work section outlines efforts of our front facing staff at the service and research help desks to improve our services, programming, and physical space through an EDI lens. The Accessibility section provides some information regarding accessibility in the library and answers questions posed by students during a recent survey. The Sustainability page provides a chronological summary of the sustainability and climate action initiatives undertaken by the Emily Carr Library + Archives. The Guiding Resources section lists some online and physical resources that have inspired and informed our efforts. We will continue to add to each of these sections as our work continues.
Our hope in sharing these efforts is to provide transparency to our community, and to help map a path forward for other libraries and archives engaging in similar work, as we look to other institutions when we need inspiration and guidance. We also share our work so that we can get feedback from our community. We value your input immensely and we ask that you direct any comments, critiques, or questions to library@ecuad.ca.
