What is a Manifesto?

A manifesto is a written statement declaring publicly the intentions, motives, or views of its issuer (as described by Merriam-Webster online dictionary). An artist manifesto declares the beliefs of the artist who wrote it, and it either affirms the public consensus of certain themes that the manifestos touches on, or it runs contrary to the commonly held views of the topic and prescribes the changes that the artist believes need to be made. In either case, the manifesto answers the question "What do you believe?" (Guidelines for developing a manifesto)
