The Emily Carr University of Art + Design Print Collection consists of over 500 prints and visual artworks. The collection includes prints representing a variety of printing processes and subjects. The print collection is intended to be used for research, teaching and learning.
The Wosk Print Collection was given to Emily Carr University in a series of donation by Dr. Yosef Wosk. The first donation of prints was in 1998 and subsequent donations occurred in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2012. On the Granville Island Campus the Wosk Print Collection was housed in a room in the Print Area and managed by the Charles H. Scott Gallery. When ECU moved to the Great Northern Way Campus the collection was moved into the Library + Archives space and came under the purview of the Library + Archives for access.
The collection consists of over 600 prints and rare books donated to the University by Dr. Yosef Wosk. The collection contains works by Cézanne, Rembrandt , Renoir, Riopelle, Cocteau, Chagal, Picasso, Manet, Miro, Warhol, Goya, Rauschenberg and many other artists. It is Dr. Wosk's hope that others will be moved to contribute works that will add both depth and instructional value to the collection. "This teaching collection will enable students to engage a series of original works, inspired by some of the best printmakers working over a period of almost five hundred years," said Dr. Wosk.
The collection is digitized and is currently being moved from the ecollections (ARCA) to the digital archives (AtoM). The purpose of this move is to use additional features in AtoM to enhance the metadata, allow for additional links to biographical information on artists, new ways of sorting dates, and more detailed description of the images. The collection can viewed online or in person by appointment. To book an appointment email library@ecuad.ca.
